Shabbat on TRY

Kippas on Ben yehuda street
Ben yehuda street at night
Shabbat was really lively and spiritual this weekend especially since it was our first Shabbat in Israel. We had a couple of synagogues to choose from to go to for Kabbalat Shabbat on Friday night, and Shabbat teffilah on Saturday morning.  I ended up going to a synagogue called Yakar for both services which is a 20 minute walk from where our campus is. Yakar is a modern orthodox synagogue. It also seemed like a very Australian synagogue. There was a lot of ruach during Kabbalat Shabbat at Yakar, especially since there were so many teen groups there.  After coming back from synagogue we came back to the campus and had bonding activities.

On Saturday night we had a free night and went to Ben Yehuda street. We had a great time. It was so beautiful to be there during the night. We split into groups and took taxis ourselves and managed to find our way there. I had an amazing falafel at "Moshiko Falafel", (Dads favourite place on Ben Yehuda street) and a very sweet crepe that I didn't like as much.

It's such a nice sight to see Jerusalem all lit up at night!!

The next day, we started school. School is 10 hours a day but it is worth it because every Tuesday and Thursday we go on tiyuls (trips) around Israel.
A week has gone by so fast, I feel like I arrived only yesterday. Oh and school isn't really that bad even though it's long, but the food they give us is debatable. I am living off salad, eggs and Nutella!

    1. There was an orthodox egalitarian shul called shir chadash, there was also a shul to choose from that only meets during Rosh Chodesh (which it was) and a few others that I don't know much about.
